Introduction to the Application of Pervaporation and Steam Permeation Processes in Molecular Sieve Membrane Dehydration

Author:

I'm not sure if you understand membrane dehydration. In short, membrane dehydration is an emerging membrane separation technology. Among them, the current mainstream membrane material is NaA molecular sieve membrane, and whether the process can achieve energy conservation and high output value is crucial. What is a molecular sieve membrane and its characteristics? What is the difference between pervaporation and steam infiltration processes? Today, Xinyuan's engineers will answer these questions.
Molecular sieve membrane is a new type of membrane material that can achieve molecular sieving. The molecular sieve membrane layer plays a sieving role and has a uniform and consistent pore size. At present, the mainstream molecular sieve membrane in the market is NaA molecular sieve membrane, which is composed of a tubular ceramic support and a surface molecular sieve membrane layer. The membrane pore size is 0.41nm, mainly used for solvent dehydration and refining.
The industrial application of molecular sieve membranes mainly includes two processes: pervaporation and steam permeation. What are the differences between them in solvent dehydration process?
Pervaporation (PV) is the process of selectively absorbing water from a mixed solution, which diffuses within the membrane and desorbs downstream of the membrane, achieving the effect of separating water. The process of pervaporation will absorb a large amount of heat and vaporize the water supply.
Steam permeation (VP) is the process of selectively absorbing water from a mixed gas, which diffuses within the membrane and desorbs downstream of the membrane, achieving the effect of separating water. The steam infiltration process absorbs less heat.
From here, we can see that the biggest difference between pervaporation and steam permeation is the different working conditions: pervaporation involves liquid-phase solvent separation, while water is vaporized and separated during membrane permeation; Steam permeation is a gas-phase solvent separation process where the solvent and water are first vaporized and then separated through a membrane. The process is based on demand, and Xinyuan Membrane Industry provides you with very suitable membrane separation technology.
